Open House Events by Ty Stonehouse

                                         Open House Events

Open Houses are surely bound to be memorable events and a way to celebrate a student that has worked so hard to get their achievement. Open Houses provide a way to celebrate a graduating student and their accomplishments throughout their high school years. The celebration also provides a way for a student’s family to get together and award them for everything that they have done, and most of all their graduation for which they have worked so hard for.

One huge excitement for the graduate would be the graduate’s family meeting all of their friends that they have made throughout their high school life. Families that have graduated should know all about the challenges of high school life, but when a student has a strong support group nothing could possibly hold them back. Continually, it is important to a graduate that their family meets and gets to know their friends that have gotten them through their tough times throughout high school life. Senior, Mackenzie Alexander, was eager to express her excitement about her family meeting her friends that she has been with throughout high school.

“I think that it is cool for my family to meet and see all of the people that I have grown up with for the past four years and I think that it is a cool way for me to move on to college and meet new people as well,” Alexander said.

Furthermore, another large event at an open house is competitive backyard games that provide a way for family and friends to come together and compete against each other. Backyard games like corn hole, horseshoe, Bottle Bash, or Giant Jenga are all examples of competitive and exciting games that are sure to bring together family and friends. Tristan Belcher, a junior that has worked extremely hard to graduate early has an interesting game that is a tradition now in their family.

“I have a pinata that is full of money. We break it open and, I will try to hurry up and try to grab all of the money,” Belcher said.

Another common trend for open houses is for a student to invite their favorite teachers that have made a positive impact and help mold them into the person that they are today. Not only will the students enjoy inviting a select few of their favorite teachers, but the teachers feel a sense of pride knowing they helped to create a positive impact on the graduate. Morgan Mitchell, a US History, and IU Government teacher had many positive comments about a graduating student.

“It is exciting knowing that they are becoming successful and knowing that they are moving into the next phase in life and it’s nice to bridge the gap of the senior moving into the real world,” Mitchell said.

Continually, a graduate would be extremely happy to have not only their family at their open house but their friends, and teachers that have gotten them through extremely tough times. Furthermore, the student that has worked extremely hard to get to the position that they are today deserve a sense of relief knowing that they have passed high school and ready to move onto higher education or move into the workforce.
