Senior Awards
With the end of the school year closely approaching this year’s seniors are wracking up and bundling up for future plans. One major after-high school experience for many students would be college. With college, the prices range heavily and for most, it leaves them with quite a lot of debt. One major help to these students would be scholarships, there was an awards night for these seniors to collect these awards and be celebrated for their amazing accomplishments. These awards ranged from academics, to athletics and all around character awards. There were 41 specific scholarships announced at the awards night, with a remarkable $76,100. Then there were more miscellaneous awards that were for College, awarded to 43 students for $2,282,993. All of these scholarships total up to an amazing $2,359,093.
There was a pleasing number of students that achieved Academic and Technical Honors diplomas. With a total of 85 for Academic and 17 for Technicals. Then with these students there were 18 that received Academic and Technical Honors collectively. This totals 120 students graduating with Technical/Academic Honors diplomas.
Mooresville Senior Alyssa Kline was awarded with three total awards for academics and overall a good standing in school. These scholarships were mostly awarded for her academic achievements but also her civil leadership roles have been seen to be a big part in it as well. Kline had a few different after-school activities aided with these accomplishments.
“Being in the NHS and Student Council helped,” Kline said.
Senior Kenny Curry earned a large scholarship total for the college of his choice, Marion University in the Westside of Indianapolis. He received a total of $7,500 in scholarships. There were two that he earned for being an outstanding athlete and for growing up and participating in a specific soccer camp. Then the third and final was for writing an essay.
“I feel very blessed to get money for this college,” Curry said.
Pierce Allan is another scholarship recipient. He was awarded with four different scholarships. Three of these were for academic success, they were the Emily Downy Memorial Fund, Jennifer Tipmore memorial, and the Charles F. & Olive B. Falter scholarship. He received one for being an athlete and that was called Steven Lee Robert Terrell Memorial. He’s going to take all of these awards and use these for his first year at the University of Cincinnati.
All three of these students, plus many more have worked tremendously diligently on the past four years of high school and it was obviously shown off in the ease and help this will aid. While college is not always everyone’s option for after high school, it’s really good to know that there are other options for cheaper and lower prices in college.
