The Magic Wand by Ty Stonehouse

                                                 The Magic Wand

The thought of a magic wand that can do anything with just the say of a few words has been throughout many fairytales and movies people have grown up with throughout the ages. But what if that dream became a reality and people throughout Mooresville High School had the opportunity to change just one thing within the school building.

One huge thing that students at MHS had wished for is for their teachers to receive a higher pay. The students wanted their teachers to know that they truly do have an impact on them as not only a student but a person as a whole. Students, of those surveyed, believed that if they actually had a magical wand and could change one thing throughout the building would be a teacher’s pay because of all of their consideration, hard work, and gratitude. Sophomore Faith Cordle was really passionate about a magic wand and the possibility of increasing teachers' pay that have provided a large and helpful impact upon her.

I would like to give all the teachers higher pay. With the world our teachers keep working hard and deserve a higher pay for all that they do for us,” Cordle said.

Another popular trend for a magic wand is starting foreign languages earlier. Students attending MHS agree that they wish they could have started earlier on learning new languages. As students' progress through grade levels, they could be learning Spanish or German or another foreign language. Most students agreed that it would be easier to start earlier instead of starting to learn a brand-new language at the start of a student's freshman year. Freshman Sidney Stultz had her very own take on this matter.

“I wish that we could have started learning a foreign language earlier. I also wish that as we progressed throughout school that we could be offered a different language until we mastered it,” Stultz said.

Continually, AP Art, Photography, and Printmaking teacher, Allyson Avery, was eager to pitch in on the topic. Avery wants students to be as eager as the teachers are to come to school and get excited to learn about new things that will help them throughout their day to day lives.

“I wish that students were as happy to be here as I am and I love what I do and it is sad to have students who don’t love coming to school,” Avery said.

Overall, the thought of a magic wand that has the ability to change anything throughout the school can lead to many positive things and different changes that could easily become a reality.
